DJ BIOGRAPHY

I don't really like to be "type-cast" into one style of music due to the nature of the clubs that I have played at over the years. I love everything and consider myself to be very eclectic. My favoured sounds are Funky, Electro & Tribal House, but I have made a name for myself spinning Progressive, Trance and Hard House, I would like to think I play “SEXY & STYLISH HOUSE MUSIC FOR THE TWISTED & TRIBAL GENERATION”. However my musical passion goes deeper to Soul, Funk, Hip-Hop and R&B. My old Skool retro house sets are legendary in Magaluf and the Northwest of England fusing old Skool house, hip hop, hardcore and techno with killer precision.

THE EARLY DAYS

I started off my DJ career in 1988 around the South coast mainly Portsmouth playing “Rave & Hardcore”. I played at a few Blackpool clubs in 1990/91 like the Love Shack & Gaiety's on the seafront, however after visiting clubs in London for the first time in 1991 I was swept up with early House music. I played at various places from Plymouth to Essex and only once in London . I was swept off to join Her Majesty's Royal Navy in the summer of 1991 for two years and in my spare time in the Navy still managed to do guest spots in Portsmouth and even did parties on the flight deck of the famous HMS ARK ROYAL. One of the most unusual gigs I did was at Brontys bar in Mount Pleasant in the Falkland Islands . After leaving the Navy in April of 1993 I worked a little while back in Blackpool, but then jetted off to Corfu to earn my crust at Moriatika & Benitses playing to the mainly 18-30 crowd. This was to help me hugely a year later when I went to Magaluf in Mallorca . In the winter of 1993 I worked for a short while at the Bizness in Blackpool, but my style was a little too eccentric for the owners and I quickly moved back down South to Essex where I pottered about with various gigs like The Music Factory in Basildon & the odd dates with my mate Pat in Portsmouth.

SUMMER 94 - 2000 AT BCM - MAGALUF, MALLORCA , SPAIN

After a short stint at The Prince William Pub, Heroes disco & Poco Loco's in Magaluf I got the chance to be a resident at the mighty BCM Music Empire. I regard BCM as one of the turning points in my career when I was installed as summer resident alongside good friend and inspiration DJ Des Mitchell. At the BCM and Millennium clubs in Magaluf, Mallorca, I had my first chance to play parties for – Ministry Of Sound, Cream, Godskitchen, Sundissentail, Clockwork Orange, Miss Moneypenny's, MTV Dance floor Chart, Judgement night and the legendary BCM old Skool nights. I was also resident at Sundance at Pacha in Palma and regularly flew over to Ibiza to guest at most of the islands discerning nightclubs. I played alongside most of the world's greatest DJ's - Carl Cox, Paul Oakenfold, Roger Sanchez, Eric Morrillo, Judge Jules, Frankie Knuckles, Armand Van Helden, and Paul Van Dyk to name but a handful. Most people who visited Majorca will remember me most for the mad and packed out foam parties, popcorn parties and Sundance nights in the basement of BCM from 97 to 2000. The Millennium club is where I single handedly took the holiday clubbers on a mad musical journey, using video shows, graphics and laser shows throughout my sets, before finally dropping millions of gallons of foam on their heads (or popcorn)!! Unfortunately BCM has since shifted its music & bars policy's to a more drink less big names policy, but its still a great club that I would recommend at least one visit.

WINTERS 94 - 2001

Since the summer months are only 4 or 5 months in the Balearics I returned to the UK in the winter. From 94 to 97 I was Head of Music & resident for a big club in Blackpool called “The Bizness”. I promoted my own House night on a Thursday called ironically enough “SCREAM” (nothing to do with Louis Gee & Dan Prince!) I had DJ's such as, a trumpet blowing Judge Jules (then Kiss FM) Graham Gold, Pete Wardman, Mathew Roberts (Now King Unique) Afrika Bambatta & Farley “Jackmaster” Funk. I also had one of the only U.S. House nights “Stateside” in the North West every Saturday which attracted clubber's from all over the UK . From 97 to 2001 I had residencies and guest spots all over the UK including the world famous London Hippodrome in the winter of 2000 / 2001

DJ OF THE YEAR 1999

I entered quite reluctantly at first the Coca Cola UK DJ of the Year competition in October 1999. I actually entered the same competition 3 years before, but they were looking for DJs that set themselves on Fire to get a response rather than musical content and mixing ability. This changed in 1999 and moved towards a more Dance DJ format. So after a comfortable 1st heat at the Pink Coconut in Derby I then went on to the semi Finals in Bolton @ Atlantis and honestly I made it look very easy destroying the competition to book a place in the Final in Watford. On the night of the final I was actually quite nervous for the first time in my career as I really wanted to win. I was first up and the nerves soon went as I took the Watford crowd on a mad musical journey, rapping, scratching and spinning my way to the number one spot from over 4000 DJ's who entered. The other finalists just couldn't emulate my opening set and I was crowned the “1999 Coca Cola UK DJ of the Year” in front of a packed Watford crowd. Winning the competition really helped me to become a big star on the international scene especially in India & Dubai where dates started to come in. It didn't really have the impact in the UK I was hoping for, but none the less I was very happy winning it!

THE LOVE PARADE

In the winter of 1999/2000 I remixed a tune called "The Love Parade" which was a re-make of the old Da Hool Classic from the mid 90's. It was massive to say the least with all the major house and trance djs playing it and it received major amounts of airplay by all the top radio DJ's. It was the anthem for the Leeds and Berlin love parade parties which attracted millions of people. Countless more tuned in to their respected national radio and TV stations to hear, with my mix being the first record played by most of the big DJ's and played regularly throughout the day and night. Manifesto records UK Re-released the original with new mixes from Fergie & Pete Heller and it went to No 11 in the UK charts in the summer of 2001 with my mix sadly being left out for political reasons. I have been really lazy when it comes to studio work as Djing & Promoting has taken up such a huge part of my time, but I am actually back in the studio as your reading this working on some projects.

2001

In the year 2001 I took a break from Mallorca to concentrate on promoting my own parties in Greece on the island of Corfu . I took up a residency at the club “Futures” for the summer, which was featured on sky TV's Greece Uncovered and Channel 4's bar wars TV programs. In Futures I promoted & DJ'd parties like: “It's a London Thing” (UK Garage & Hip-Hop) “Sun-essential” (Trance & Hard House) “Back to the Old Skool” (Club Classics) “Dance Anthems” (Old Skool Vs New Skool). As well as playing for Garage Heaven and Sundance tours with guest DJ's like: Artful Dodger, Oxide & Neutrino, Slipmatt, Ratpack, Trick or Treat, Brandon Block, Farley “Jack master” Funk, Ruff-Driverz and many more. I also organised the very popular “full moon” style party called MOONDANCE which attracted thousands of clubber's to the beach at Kavos and I still managed to do some guest spots on the mad island of Ibiza flying in & out in a day on many occasions.

DJ FUBAR @ Ministry of Sound, Bangkok , Thailand - Nov 2001 to Sep 2002

I was installed at Ministry of sound – Bangkok as resident DJ and head of music. My responsibilities were mainly to book in all international DJ's and set the music policies for the residents. I really made a mark in Bangkok when the club opened in December 2001. Friday & Saturday nights there was fast becoming legendary before I left and there hasn't been one international guest DJ that hasn't liked playing at Ministry of Sound when they have visited Bangkok . I had booked in DJ's such as Paul Van Dyk, Paul Oakenfold, Judge Jules, Pete Heller, Brandon Block, Alex-P, Danny Rampling, DJ Heaven, Parks & Wilson, Christian Smith, Mark Lewis, John Kelly, Craig Burger Queen, DJ Paulette, Steve Mac, Eddie Lock, Benjamin Diamond, The Eternals, DJ F.E.X, Freddy, Phil Gifford, and Alan Thompson, with future bookings with the likes of: David Morales, Felix Da Housecat, Sonique & Roger Sanchez Putting Bangkok firmly in the top percentage of clubbing destinations in Asia. I also had a huge local following that were in the club week-in & week-out to see me mix my own blend of funky us house & tribal house. Sadly the police & Management style ended the clubs reign and it was sold to a Singaporean company who have now changed the name to Club DBL-0 (Double O) I regard Ministry Of Sound in Bangkok as one of the best clubs I have every played at in any location around the world and I was sad to leave, but even bigger and better things lay ahead at the end of 2003.

SUMMER 2002

In 2002 whilst still at Ministry Of Sound I took 3 weeks off to conquered the mighty USA with the East meets West tour with DJ Mark Lewis which I played a few dates at whilst on vacation there in August. ( San Diego & Las Vegas ) The tour dates included: SAN DIEGO @ MONTAGE: LAS VEGAS @ GLO: LOS ANGELES @ POINTE 705: SAN FRANCISCO @ DNA: DALLAS @ SEVEN & MIAMI @ NICKI BEACH .

I also played at SPACE & ES PARADIS in IBIZA in July, Shanghai , China @ Labelle, Calcutta @ Tantra, Mumbai @ Fire & Ice, Delhi , Goa & Gawahati in India . Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam @ Club Blue (sadly burnt down a month later), Koh Samui, Thailand for “WE LOVE” as well as the legendary FULL MOON PARTY @ Koh Pang Yang Island, Thailand And a few varied dates back in the UK in between.

SUMMER 2003

From Sunday to Thursday I returned to the mad island of Majorca to promote a club which I used to DJ at in early 1994. Fusion (Formerly Heroes) is now under the control of Michael Blunt, Jo Walsh & Fubar. With BCM shifting their music policy to less djs more booze, I decided the timing was perfect to do some parties in the resort. I brought in Hed Kandi every Thursday, Retro every Sunday as well as Judge Jules once a fortnight, GoodGreef, Boy George, Danny Rampling, Blocko, Peezee, Jeremy Healy, Lisa Loud and loads more djs to keep the purist dance crowd happy in Magaluf. It was a very up and down season with more ups than downs and it was great to see the mighty BCM resorting to dogshit tactics to try and spoil our nights. They even ended up barring me from going in!! How funny is that!! Anyway overall it was a very good season for all concerned especially Hed Kandi & Retro.

SUMMER 2004

I went back to two of my former haunts – Magaluf in Mallorca & Kavos in Greece to promote and DJ at some of the best parties. In Magaluf every Wednesday was RETRO @ Fusion with Paul Taylor & Ray Davies and then every Thursday it was HED KANDI @ Bananas with Paul Wilkins & Matt Collins.

I also dropped in every couple of weeks to do guest spots at both clubs as well as organising my now legendary Birthday party in August. In Kavos, Corfu , Greece I organised The Syndicate Superclub World tour which took place at Futures my former club in 2001. Alongside me on the tour dates were Judge Jules & Dave Pearce. The dates were as follows:

June 24th (with Judge Jules)

July 15th (with Judge Jules)

August 11th (with Dave Pearce)

September 2nd (with Judge Jules)

SUMMER 2005

Summer 2005 I went back to the islands to promote and perform at once again the biggest and best parties in Majorca & Greece. So many big names and big parties were planned it was hard to keep track of which country I was going to be in from day to day, however I was mainly based in Corfu every week from Sunday to Thursday and flew back every week for my weekend residency at The Syndicate. It wasn't the most successful of stories in Corfu over the summer as the owner of the venue decided to rip me off, but you live and learn and I won't be back there in a hurry!!

I also played Judgement Sunday @ Eden in Ibiza on Sunday 19th June which I have always wanted to play and spent many a mad night back in Majorca .

THE SYNDICATE SUPERCLUB – DECEMBER 2002 – PRESENT DAY

I went back to the town where it all began for me – BLACKPOOL ! I created a big stir up North with an amazing atmosphere at the UK ’s biggest club, to well over 10000 clubbers a week - THE SYNDICATE SUPERCLUB. My arrival at the club brought in the worlds greatest DJs like Pete Tong (Broadcast Live from the club on Radio 1s Essential Mix) Robbie Rivera, Eric Morrillo, David Morales, Frankie Knuckles, Fergie, Lisa Lashes, Danny Rampling, Tall Paul, Eddie Halliwell, Steve Mac Benny Bennasi, Boy George, Graeme Park, Lisa Loud, Jeremy Healy, Judge Jules, Dave Pearce, Sonique, Lisa Pin Up, Brandon Block. The club had become a new breed of Super clubs having parties like MTV Dance, Slinky, Retro and Hed Kandi and really made waves across the UK and beyond.

I am the Promoter & Head of Music for the Syndicate and i am responsible for the music policies as well as booking all the djs & acts for the club. I had a fantastic first 3 years there with highlights being the Essential Mix Live Broadcast from the club with Pete Tong on Valentines Day 2004, Erick Morrillo on Boxing Day 2004, David Morales on our 2nd Birthday in Dec 2004 and to be honest too many to mention, but one more in particular – NYE 2005!!

My last night at the club last year was New Years Eve 2005 into 2006 and with it being Hed Kandi as well the night was amazing and I got to play for 3 hours!! However im back from June 2006 and cant wait to put that big Sound System through its paces again.

GATECRASHER – WINTER 2006

When the Syndicate closed briefly I had a tough decision to make, either stay and wait for it to re-open or move on and look for something else and it was a tough decision, but really made easier by taking a position with the mighty GATECRASHER. I was always very wary of taking a step down, back or sideways from The Syndicate, but I felt joining Gatecrasher was definitely A BIG STEP UP!! I was resident for their new club in Birmingham called The Works and it's an amazing space, but Gatecrasher need to make their mark on it and when they do it has the potential to be one of the UKs best venues. I also played on the Crasher Classics events in Birmingham & the Flamingo in Blackpool as well as making the briefest of appearances at Discotheque in Leeds & the legendary Gatecrasher One in Sheffield .

After my short residency at Gatecrasher I decided to return to the UKs biggest Superclub so im back behind the turntables at The Syndicate Superclub from June 2006 onwards under new owners Nexum Leisure.

This summer 2006 I am back on the islands of Majorca & Ibiza, but with some new destinations added like Gran Canaria, Benidorm and Marbella . Keep checking the appearances section of where and when Im going to be.

Im just into my 30s and my appetite for new ventures, new challenges and new dreams has not diminished. I feel I am one of the hardest working and most passionate DJ's & promoters you will ever come across so make sure you check me out in action somewhere as I never disappoint.

My saying in life is “don't imitate, innovate” and that's exactly what I do when I play.
